Purchasing refurbished laptop is probably not a right decision for some people. They may think there will be many problems rise when using refurbished product, either because of components defects, defects on the body and laptop’s screen, or another causes that had made customer shipped it back to the manufacturer.

It has to be known that customer’s reasons to ship purchased laptop back to manufacturer are not always bad for you. If you have figured out the reasons, you can find a refurbished laptop which is just like a new one.

Another reason customer shipped the new laptop back to manufacturer are only because they do not like the laptop’s color, a shipping mistake, or just because of a small scratch on the laptop body. In some cases, even at the time the package arrived, customer shipped it back without opening it. Although the new laptop which does not have scratch and defect returned, manufacturer still checks it to ensure it is in a good condition, re-packs it, and then re-sells it as refurbished laptop.

Perhaps after you know this, you may change your decision to buy a refurbished laptop than spent a lot of money to buy a new one. Things you need to do when buying a laptop whether it is new or refurbished are:

First, Check the body and laptop screen if there are scratches or severe defects.

Second, check whether its performance fit up with the specifications. To check, right click on ‘My Computer’ then select properties, in system properties window you can see used Operating System, RAM memory, and processor, select ‘Hardware’ tab and press ‘Device Manager’ button to see the hardware.

Finally, especially on Refurbished laptop, take a look if there is a death pixel on laptop screen. Death pixel is small black dot (usually only 1) which is hard to see. To make it easier to find, make your laptop screen white entirely by using Microsoft Word or Paint program, and then find the black dot (not dust). Death pixel is a defect which must be considered because sometimes it bothers your focus.

Before buying a refurbished laptop, make sure the warranty is 1 year or more, some Hewlett Packard brand have 3 years limited warranty. I recommend buying refurbished laptop on guaranteed company websites.

Maybe when you want to spend your money on a new laptop, you have no idea to check out the refurbished laptops first, or you already know about it but afraid to buy it because the products could be defective or fail products before being refurbished. For some people its better for them to buy a refurbished laptop as long as the price is much cheaper and has a longer time warranty.

New laptop that has been purchased by the customer and returned to the manufacturer for some reason is not new anymore either it is defective, damaged, product delivery mistake, etc. The complained product will be shipped back, refurbished by manufacturer to fix its problem, re-packed, and then re-sell it. There are some refurbished laptops which are actually new, they were returned and re-packed just due to delivery mistake to the customer.

It is important to know that refurbished laptops are classified into 3 types, based on customer complaint.

Refurbished Laptops types

1. Laptop specification problems

Products which are returned to the manufacturer because the performance does not match to the specification. They will be processed and re-check to ensure the performance meets the actual specification.

2. Delivery mistake

Due to the delivery product error, even the customer has not opened the package before shipping it back.

3. Defects on the product

Products which are returned because there are scratches or dent on the product. Normally those products are re-packed and re-sell without fixing if just a few defects found.

How to Buy a Refurbished laptop

First to note is which refurbished laptops type you want to buy. If you want to save your money, I recommend buying the third type. Not a problem, a few defects does not affect the computer performance. The second is adjusting product’s specification with your needs. Finally, compare product prices by visiting several sites to find the desired price and you also need to check how long the warranty of the product, usually more than 1 year for refurbished laptops. Buy refurbished laptops on the authorized sites is recommended.
