Previously until these days, Maxtor’s reputation is as good as the competitors, Seagate and Western Digital. But I read a lot of testimony from some hard drive users about Maxtor drives weakness. Among most popular hard drive brands, I think Maxtor drives have become the brand that receives the most complaints. Some people feel more confident using Seagate to protect their data than Maxtor. They think that since Serial ATA hard drives take role in the hard drive market, Maxtor hard drives are no longer best in ATA class. But I’ve never had a bad experience with them. I installed them on 2 home computers for 4 years and one computer in my office for 2 years. They’re working well until now.

Many complaints come from users about Maxtor drives which are easily to get hot and very noisy. Maxtor drives are also called musical hard drive because their motor produces mobile phone melody when the spindle gets stuck. Although receive many complaints, Maxtor drives are still a good deal products for many hard drive users. It has data protection and data recovery features.
