External Harddrive
External Harddrive Types
By Andreas Lee
There are various models and capacity of external harddrive adjusted to your desire. For those of you who need the small size and medium size storage capacity, choose the portable external harddrive with size 2.5 inch, it’s easier to be taken handy.
For big size storage capacity, you can make a choice on the desktop external harddrive which has a larger size than the portable type but the data storage capacity is also larger, at least 500 GB and the largest 8 TB. One of 8 TB products is created by CalDigit. The desktop external harddrive is also a portable device which can be plugged in to any computer, but because of its capacity and its size, the name is not made the same as portable type.
Using Tips
Pay attention when you want to stick the external harddrive USB cable in USB port on the Central Processing Unit (CPU). If the USB port type is the old one (here I call it as USB 1.0), the external harddrive could not be read by the CPU because now, almost all types only supported with USB 2.0.
When using it, make sure another USB device are not plugged in to the same CPU. It will share power supply to each device so the external harddrive performance will not be optimal. Especially for portable type, do not use for a long time because it heats easily.
Choosing The Portable External Harddrive
Three important factors to select a portable external harddrive are the capacity, speed, and size. So the conclusion is to choose the largest capacity and the fastest one, but smallest, can be put into your pocket or slipped in the book.
My favorite is Seagate and Western Digital, because of the unique and elegant shape. One of them is the black orange Seagate FreeAgent Go, which has instant access, a pretty fair capacity, and a captivating design.
